Launching the first mining project in Australia’s second-largest city, CGN Resources Ltd.
announced Tuesday that it will open its new mining operation on a 400-hectare site in Adelaide’s CBD.
“It’s a big deal, we’re really proud of it,” CGN CEO Jim Bowers said of the project, which is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs in the mining sector.
It’s the latest in a series of investments by the company, which will also develop its first gold mine in New South Wales.
CGN said the site, in the south-east corner of the city, will house a new mining operations and a processing facility, as well as a new commercial site.
Bowers said the new site is in the heart of Adelaide’s booming mining sector, which employs more than 200,000 people in the state.
The company expects to begin operations this year and be profitable by 2018.

Its release comes as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who has said he wants to be the first world leader to visit the site of the disaster, said the government is determined to get the movie made.
Earlier this month, CZEN Resources Ltd., which owns more than 60 per cent of CGN, said it had signed an agreement with Paramount Pictures to produce a documentary about the accident.
In June, the film, which has yet to be greenlit, was described as a “world premiere” of a documentary that will show the effects of the nuclear accident.
“It has a global impact and it will be the only documentary on Chernobyl that’s going to give the world the full picture of the fallout, and the impact of the accident, for the first time,” CZen Resources CEO Jim Pugh said at the time.
Australia’s biggest minersCGN’s Adelaide site, which CGN says will create 1,200 jobs, was set aside for the mining project.
A spokesman for CGN said it was still awaiting approval from Adelaide City Council, but it was confident of securing the site by the end of the year.
Adelaide is the country’s fourth-largest metropolitan area and has been dubbed “a city for the miners” by CGN’s CGN Mining Chief Executive.
According to the company’s website, CZX Resources Ltd has a presence in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, South West and Western Australia, with plans to expand in New Zealand and South America.
As well as its mining operations, CNG Resources has an engineering and construction company, as do its parent company, CGH Resources.
